Fresh Trim Paint on Doors, Windows, and Built-In Cabinetry

Trim is one of those things people walk past every day without really thinking about it - until it starts looking worn, yellowed, or just flat-out dull. That's when a fresh coat on the doors, window casings, and built-ins can pull an entire room back together without touching a single wall.

For this one, we used Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel in a satin finish. That's not an accident. Emerald Urethane is specifically formulated for hard-use surfaces like doors and cabinetry. It dries to a hard, durable shell that resists scuffs and cleans up easily - which matters a lot on surfaces people are touching and bumping into constantly.

The built-in shelving and lower cabinet run is a good example of why product selection matters here. Built-ins have a lot of detail - panel faces, shelf edges, cabinet doors, and framing all meeting in tight corners. Getting a smooth, even result on that kind of millwork takes the right paint and the right application technique. A flat or standard latex would show brush marks and wear down fast. This finish holds up.

The bifold closet doors and window trim tie it all together. When the same clean finish runs across all the woodwork in a space, the room feels more cohesive - more intentional. It's a detail that's easy to overlook on a to-do list but hard to miss once it's done right.
